Project: To assist with the design, manufacture and installation of a laser marking system to mark crank shafts for a major automotive manufacturer.

Working together with our customer and machine builders from concept design, through factory acceptance and commissioning, a system was developed to meet the client’s requirements.

The laser marking system was installed within the robot cell to mark variable human readable data and 2D codes onto one end of a 3 or 4 cylinder crank. The other end has a pre-existing code which has to be read by the included vision system, the part is then rotated to the correct index position, loaded into the cabinet and marked with data. This is again read and verified before the part is unloaded and removed by the robot.
